Webinar Testimonials
Crips against cuts: the impact of benefit cuts on autistic people by Elwyn Knight
Elwyn’s passion-filled webinar was rich with insight into activism work fighting against the disability benefit cuts proposed by the current government. The research behind this permitted listeners to better understand the workings of the benefit system and how suggested changes are to be made. As a system impacting negatively on many autistic individuals, this was a timely presentation.
Autistic Epistemology and Implications within the Criminal Justice System by Luke Beardon
Luke exposed the very different ways that society views autism, and the diverse impacts this has on autistic people, particularly those that encounter the Criminal Justice System (CJS). Importantly, Luke highlighted how the CJS frequently believes much misinformation about autism, and he left us under no illusion as to the devastating effects that these misapprehensions have on the lives of those who come into contact with it either as [alleged] victim or perpetrator.
Monotropism and the Different Sensory Experiences of Non-Binary Individuals by Dr Wenn Lawson
Wenn’s sharing regarding the diverse sensory experiences of non-binary individuals came from lived experience and for that was so rich in information. The webinar is useful listening for those non-binary autistic survivors who may struggle to voice their experiences, whilst making sense of their monotropic mindset and confidently voicing their gender. For those who do not identify as non-binary, the webinar is important listening to enable the building of understanding.
Supporting Neurodivergent Pregnant Survivors of Sexual Assault by Laura Spence and Susy Ridout
This webinar introduced a discussion between Laura and Susy around the experiences of autistic mothers throughout all stages of the birth process. Discussion focused on many areas where maternity care falls short in terms of addressing the needs of autistic mothers, and as an experienced midwife and sexual assault forensic examiner, Laura was able to respond with detailed information to critically expose bad practice and reflect on more positive resolutions.
